Please ensure you meet the eligibility criteria outlined below before submitting your application.
As a successful applicant, attend a two-day Boot Camp in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne or Perth. Learn everything from understanding your beachhead market and calculating your finances to finding and understanding your customer. Set up your business pitch-deck and learn how to pitch like a pro.
Following Boot Camp attend 4 evening webinars with KIC’s industry expert coaches (one hour a week, over one month) to help you polish your pitch deck.
Then, its pitch time! Come to the pitch evening and deliver your 5-minute pitch in front of your peers and a judging panel of industry experts.
The top 2 teams will move on to the next stage. For some remaining teams there will be opportunities to take your ideas further with KIC’s partner network.
Congratulations, you’ve made it to the next round.
Get matched to an expert mentor to help take your idea and pitch-deck to the next level.
Our mentors, executive-level industry experts, are keen to support new entrepreneurs. Catch-up one hour each week, over four weeks – either in person with your mentor or online – to work on your pitch deck.
Now you’re ready! Pitch at the National Pitch Final in front of a diverse audience and a jury of experts from the start-up industry. The top 2 teams selected, get to go global!
Here we go! Time to pack your suitcase and pitch deck to go global. We send you to the Global Pitch Finals.
Meet peers from 50 other countries to network and celebrate innovation and entrepreneurship. Attend industry workshops with investors and global accelerator professionals. And, of course, pitch your clean-tech business idea to a global audience and judging panel.
The top 10 teams globally will be offered a spot in the incredible EIT Climate-KIC Accelerator Program based in Europe, which includes major seed funding and cash prizes. In 2017, 13 innovators on the Forbes 30 under 30 list came out of the KIC programs. Check out prizes here.
The competition is open to any Australian resident, 18 years and older, with an innovative green idea – whether it’s fully fledged or sketched on the back of a coaster. As an early stage start-up, SME, researcher, student, public organisation, consultant or anyone else you’re welcome.
We encourage you to apply as a team of at least 2 people. You don’t have a team mate, yet? You can still apply and if successful invite a colleague or friend to attend the Boot Camp with you.
You can not enter ClimateLaunchpad if you’ve already been accepted into EIT Climate-KIC Accelerator or have participated in ClimateLaunchpad with the same business idea in a previous year.

“A green business school in disguise, that is how former participants refer to our competition. We train people with green ideas to become successful entrepreneurs. We know climate change is solvable. We also know there will not be one single cure, we need – and there will be – thousands of big and small cures. That is why it is our mission to fix climate change, one start-up at a time.”
Frans Nauta, ClimateLaunchpad founder
ClimateLaunchpad is the world’s largest clean-tech and green business ideas competition across 50 countries. The competition was founded and initiated by EIT Climate-KIC – the European Union’s major climate innovation initiative – and facilitated across Australia by Climate-KIC Australia in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane.
Your idea stays yours. 100%. We just help you train and compete.
The full program is free of charge for anyone within Australia accepted into the competition. If you live at the outskirts of a city where we run the Boot Camps (see above) you will have to pay for your own commute and if necessary accommodation to attend the Boot Camp.
Climate-KIC Australia provides a travel budget for the top two teams in each city to attend the National Pitch Final which helps to covers flights and accomodation. We also provide a travel budget to the two teams that attend the Global Finals. The amount and terms & conditions for those travel budgets will be communicated with the relevant teams.
Prizes differ per city. The top-10 teams at the Global Pitch Final win direct access to the EIT Climate-KIC accelerator.
All other Global Finalists get a chance to pitch their idea in front of the review board of EIT Climate-KIC Accelerator to gain access to the programme. Last but not least: the overall Winner of the Global Pitch Final receives € 10,000, the runner up gets € 5,000 and the idea that comes in third place wins € 2,500. All prizewinners are responsible for any taxes, wire transfer costs and other possible costs related to receiving the prize money.
Climate-KIC Australia supports the most promising start-ups through various pipelines and pathways with our many national partners. Participating in the Australian ClimateLaunchpad can also give you access into other competitions, Pre- and Accelerator Programs, social impact programs and other networks.

“ClimateLaunchpad was a complete gamechanger for us. We went from having what we thought was a pretty solid idea, to a fully-fledged plan for taking our product to market, which has enabled us to commence our seed funding round, with a really promising outlook.”
