Including: Australian Gas Infrastructure Group, APA Group, Aurecon, AustralianSuper, BHP, BlueScope Steel, bp Australia, Cbus, the Clean Energy Finance Corporation, Fortescue Metals Group, HSBC, Orica, National Australia Bank, Rio Tinto, Schneider Electric, Wesfarmers Chemicals, Energy & Fertilisers, Westpac and Woodside Energy.
Including steel, aluminium, liquefied natural gas, selected metals (such as gold, copper, zinc, nickel), and chemicals.

The Australian Industry Energy Transitions Initiative (Australian Industry ETI) will support Australian industry to develop pathways and actions to support net zero emissions across critical supply chains of the Australian economy. The objective of the Initiative is to accelerate informed action by Australian industry towards the achievement of net zero emissions supply chains by 2050 while managing the transition to thrive in a decarbonised global economy.
Through a combination of research and on the ground projects, the challenges and opportunities of net zero emissions supply chains in an Australian context will be examined and put into practice. The five sectors that will be the focus of the initiative are: steel, aluminium, liquified natural gas, other metals (such as lithium, gold, copper, zinc, nickel) and chemicals (including explosives & fertiliser).
Australian industry forms part of globally emissions-intensive supply chains that will play a critical role in reducing emissions in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement. There is an opportunity to accelerate the capability of Australian industries to become major suppliers in a decarbonised global economy. Using industry insights and current best practice, we can identify technology gaps requiring research and development to meet the achievement of net zero emissions supply chains by 2050.
COVID-19 highlighted the interdependencies of communities, countries and economies and offers many lessons for climate change, including the importance of coordinated learning. Managing our way through the current health crisis offers an opportunity to focus on how the business community can support the long term needs for human wellbeing and a safe and healthy environment.

These ‘hard-to-abate’ sectors form part of a broader energy system that must be rapidly transformed if planetary warming is to remain below 1.5°C or even 2°C in line with the Paris Agreement.
Australian Industry ETI is focused on creating a platform for industry learning and experimentation in pursuit of net zero emissions in these hard-to-abate sectors and the supply chains linking them to the global economy.
The Australian Industry Energy Transitions Initiative brings together leaders from industry and business to coordinate learning and action on net zero emissions supply chains. Australian Industry ETI invites interest from across the network of Australia’s emissions-intensive industry and related business.
Independent, not-for-profit bodies ClimateWorks Australia and Climate KIC Australia are conveners of the Australian Industry ETI, working in collaboration with the Energy Transitions Commission. The initiative’s chair is Simon McKeon AO, Chancellor of Monash University, former CSIRO Chairman and former Australian of the Year.
