The Australian business community has seen a continued growth in interest in increasing trade and investment with the European Union in the context of the free trade agreement negotiations. These negotiations provide an excellent opportunity to connect business organisations with strong sustainability interests from both sides of the continent, here in Australia as well as in the European Union.
The European Union-Australian Climate Business Network provides a perfect opportunity to expand on this growing interest by providing a channel for engagement in sustainability activities for these companies and fostering the sharing of experience and expertise in implementing the goals of the Paris Agreement, as well as support building of momentum, scale and harnessing co-operation.
The Network is financially supported by the European Commission under its Partnership Instrument “Strategic Program for the Implementation of the Paris Agreement’.
Climate KIC Australia, with its linkages to the EU through its sister organisation EIT Climate-KIC, is the delivery partner for the Network. Climate KICis a knowledge and innovation community (KIC) which works with public and private partners to catalyse system level climate action.

With a successor program to SPIPA currently being finalised by the EU and expected to be announced in in coming months, consideration is being given to the extension of the Network activities for a further phase, having regard to the focus themes of the EU-Australia country engagement strategy. Several project partners have already indicated their interest and intention to continue the collaboration with the Network and Climate KIC Australia on themes of renewable energy, circular economy and sustainable finance.
