Sydney, Australia, February 13, 2024 – Climate-KIC Australia and the University of Technology Sydney’s Institute for Sustainable Futures (ISF) have executed a strategic merger, effective January 1, 2024, aimed at optimising their combined potential for climate impact. This bold integration aligns the dedicated team, existing contracts, brand value, and goodwill of Climate-KIC Australia with the rich legacy of sustainable innovation held by ISF.

The merger represents the culmination of a dynamic and collaborative relationship that has spanned over six years, dating back to the establishment of Climate-KIC Australia. Serving as a natural evolution of their partnership, this union signifies a unified approach in the pursuit of a sustainable and resilient future.

“ISF has been one of Climate-KIC’s closest collaborators since our very beginning,” says Chris Lee, CEO of Climate-KIC Australia. “Our shared history, shared ambition, and shared values make this integration a compelling opportunity for us to unite forces and amplify our impact.”

While Climate-KIC Australia will be positioned as one of ISF’s core programs, we will maintain our independence and brand identity; our core operations, business model, and impact priorities will remain undisturbed, ensuring a seamless transition for ongoing projects and collaborations.

Climate-KIC Australia will leverage the merger to explore new systems innovation opportunities opened up by being under the UTS and ISF umbrella. The strong position we have within the climate action space alongside the new opportunities this alliance will afford us places both Climate-KIC Australia and ISF in a position to amplify innovation, research, and collaborative endeavours aimed at addressing the urgent challenges of our time.

This merger underscores a shared commitment to systems innovation and leadership in the climate space. We look forward to building upon our highly aligned cultures that values the flourishing of ideas, strengthening of partnerships, and collective efforts resulting in meaningful and lasting change.

Stuart White, Director of ISF echoes this sentiment, “Climate-KIC Australia and the Institute for Sustainable Futures have shared values and a common vision. Our work is highly complementary and together we can make an even bigger difference in the urgent task of catalysing climate action.”

We are grateful for the support and collaboration that has shaped our journey so far, and we are optimistic about the growth, impact, and positive change that this merger will bring.

More than a mere union of organisations, this merger represents a collective dedication to building a sustainable future. Together, we look forward to creating a lasting impact on climate action and leaving a legacy of positive change as we embark on this exciting new chapter. Questions or thoughts from stakeholders are welcomed as we forge ahead together.
