Become a philanthropic partner and donate to our mission to catalyse climate action through innovation and transform Australia into a climate resilient, liveable and thriving zero-carbon economy.
If we are the last generation that can avert the climate crisis, how do we transform our society and economy in 10 years and save the planet? How do we innovate and transform when we need to go six times faster than anything the world has achieved so far? These are the questions that frame our focus areas.
At Climate-KIC Australia, we develop early-action innovation initiatives with government, industry and research to catalyse transformation at the scale and speed the climate challenge needs. Please get in touch if you would like to support any of the initiatives mentioned below or to discuss any other areas of interest you have. You can contribute at any level.
Innovation-as-usual will not deliver a 1.5-degree world. The status-quo of single innovation projects that are siloed, fragmented and tech focused will only lead to incremental change.
Our model for system innovation builds portfolios of globally connected projects that learn from each other and address all levers of change. We are using this model for our Industry Energy Transitions Initiative to transform critical supply chains for the Australian economy like aluminium, steel, chemicals and metals to net-zero emissions. Your support will allow us to develop new initiatives for other industries, cities and regions.
Funding target: $250,000
We are leading several sustainable finance initiatives that seek to fill the funding gap for climate action. Our Business Renewables Centre is unlocking markets for clean energy projects through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs). Our Climate Measurements Standards Initiative is setting the standards for climate risk disclosure with Australia’s largest insurers, banks, and leading scientists.
We are now developing a new investment platform (Transformational Capital Hub) to build investible deals for the transfromation of Australia’s regions and cities. Taking the best of impact investing, ecosystem investment and blended finance and combining it with our knowledge on how to transform systems.
Funding target: $500,000
Starting a business is one of the most powerful ways to tackle climate change. Our ClimateLaunchpad program supports scientists, engineers and innovators to fast track their ideas and research into sustainable businesses.
Our program provides free training, coaching, support and connections to a global network of investors, accelerators and market opportunities. The ClimateLaunchpad program originated in Europe and is now run in over 50 countries across the world. This year we partnered with the Future Batteries Industries CRC to support innovators in energy storage.
Funding target: $200,000
Tired of talk and want to take action? Our Climathons are local hackathons where councils and citizens co-create ideas to the biggest local climate challenges.
In 2019, 145 cities all over the world held Climathons. We support Climathon communities to colloborate, ideate, disrupt the status-quo, and rethink the cities we live in and the future we want as citizens. Last year we partnered with Resilient Sydney to increase community resilience to heatwaves and heat-stress.
Funding target: $25,000 per city
