1 November 2024 – Climate-KIC partners Race for 2030 have published the first Annual Report for the Energy Upgrades for Australian Homes (EUAH) project.  Climate-KIC have been working alongside RACE and another 10 partners on the collaborative project that aims to enable energy upgrades for 1 million Australian homes.  The Annual Report provides an update on the activities and achievements of the project, spanning community engagement, policy pathways and industry engagement.

2024 project highlights

This year, the EUAH team has laid the foundations for this three-year project.

To form a clear picture of the current landscape for home energy upgrades in Australia, researchers collected and synthesised existing evidence across:

  • policy and regulations
  • community implementation and business models
  • behaviour change
  • building stock analysis and co-benefits modelling
  • supply chain analysis
  • platform development, and
  • working with community partners.

The team also worked to understand more about the project’s end-users: the government representatives and community leaders involved in home energy upgrades.

In 2024, EUAH welcomed its first two Community Partners: The Electric Homes Program in Geelong (Vic) and the Energy Efficiency Retrofit Pilot in Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands (SA). Working with these partners and learning from their program delivery experience has rounded out the year’s knowledge-gathering and put EUAH in a strong position to take its next steps.

Where to next?

In 2025, EUAH moves into the ‘Prototyping and Planning’ stage.

The team will recruit another four Community Partners, to ensure that the project considers a diversity of communities, housing stock and climactic conditions. This is important to the EUAH aim of creating a replicable model and resources relevant to a broad range of Australian communities.

In tandem, the team will continue to develop and test resources for communities, including an online portal and collection of fact sheets. This will be complemented by policy briefs to support home energy upgrades at scale.
