As we reflect on the past year, Climate-KIC Australia continues to build momentum in catalysing systemic climate action.
Climate-KIC Australia was established in 2017 as the sister organisation to the European Union’s climate innovation initiative, EIT – to orchestrate climate collaborations in Australia that reshape systems to deliver transformational climate impact.
In 2024, we continued to fulfil this role while transitioning from an independent not-for-profit to merging with the Institute for Sustainable Futures (ISF) at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). The merger represents a natural pairing of like-minded entities and long-time collaborators, supporting the aspirations outlined in our 2022-25 Strategy: Climate Action through Systems Innovation and harnessing opportunities to scale our impact. ISF brings nearly 30 years of deep research and policy expertise, while Climate-KIC focuses on designing high-impact, systemic collaborations across industry, government, business, and society.
“By joining forces with Climate-KIC Australia, we are fostering a stronger ecosystem for systemic climate solutions. This partnership enables us to scale our impact, ensuring that research-driven innovation translates into real-world climate action.”
– Stuart White, Director of ISF
As the urgency for climate action intensifies, the global pathway to limiting warming to 1.5°C remains deeply challenging. While Australia has made significant strides, including committing to net zero and advancing many practical initiatives, the scale and pace of transformation required remains immense. Ambitious collaborations between government, industry, research and community organisations have never been more urgent, as devastating and political unrest threaten the climate agenda. Inadequate and uncoordinated action continues to
In this report, we proudly present some of our most ambitious projects to date, and deeper insight into our portfolio of impact. As we look ahead, we continue to explore new collaborations, project designs, and ways of working, grounded in learning by doing to propel us forward and scale our collective impact.
We look forward to launching our new strategy later in the year, along with expanding and deepening our project portfolio of climate action. We extend our gratitude to our collaboration network and stakeholders, whose partnership enables us to help accelerate Australia’s transition toward a climate-positive, resilient, and thriving future.
